O. Shirley Recreation Ground.<\/p>\n<p>C. W. General Maintenance was awarded the contract to design, supply and install stadium lighting in the amount of $575,437.50 while Caribbean Environmental Restoration Limited was awarded the contract to repair the grandstand, gym and sickbay in the amount of 284,795.64.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Cliff Williams, owner of both companies, a former athlete and present-day coach inked the contracts with the RDA on January 30. Minister with the responsibility for Sports Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley witnessed on behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n<p>Honourable Wheatley thanked the RDA for the good work it continues to do in leading the procurement process and ensuring the recovery process is proceeding in a visible manner.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Wheatley said he sees the lighting as very significant as it will help athletes maximize time spent on the field particularly during the winter months.\u00a0 Repairs to the grandstand will provide seating and address safety concerns when persons utilize that area.<\/p>\n<p>President of the BVI Athletics Association Steve Augustine expressed his appreciation on behalf of the athletic association and sports family in the Territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year we are looking at the possibility of doing something greater on the track and therefore our seating capacity comes into play,\u201d He said, adding, \u201cThis is a much-needed project, a long overdue project, but the timing is good.\u00a0 We are thankful, we are grateful, and we intend to utilize every square inch of what is going to be repaired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Williams was the sole applicant who submitted tenders for both procurement opportunities.\u00a0 He said he was thankful for the opportunity to develop the sporting facility and contribute towards the recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The contract signing signals the continued improvement of the Territory\u2019s premier training facility which serves as the home to track and field events, the training ground for athletes and the sports arena for soccer, rugby and football.<\/p>\n<p>The contracts were executed under the National Competitive Bidding process and awarded following a detailed evaluation of the technical and financial submissions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The stadium lighting and the repairs to the grandstand, gym and sick bay are two of eight activities of the broader A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground project.\u00a0\u00a0 Five activities have been completed namely the installation of the Track, Bathrooms, Wall and Gates (External Perimeter Fence), Bathroom Groundworks &amp; Drainage and the Internal Trackside Fence. Repair works for the Pavilion will be sent to tender shortly. \u00a0RDA projects are divided into activities to better manage and track project progress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture project which is being implemented with support of the RDA and in partnership with the Recreation Committee. Shirley Recreation Ground to ensure the sporting facility is restored and drainage issues in the area are rectified.<\/p><p>The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) working with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, awarded No Limit Construction with the contract to build a soakaway drainage system at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground and prepare groundwork for a new containerized bathroom.<\/p><p>Manager of No Limit Construction Mr. Rajah Smith signed the contract on June 3 in the sum of $63,858.00.<\/p><p><img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2384 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/bvirecovery.vg\/old\/old\/oldoldwp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Photo_-_21-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p><p>The scope of works for this project includes the design and construction of a soakaway drainage system, the disposal of existing bathroom facilities, the preparation of groundwork for the installation of the new bathroom infrastructure, and requisite landscaping.<\/p><p>As part of its commitment to this project, the RDA purchased a containerized bathroom unit which will be installed to replace the bathrooms damaged after the 2017 hurricanes. No Limit Construction will be responsible for preparing all utility and groundwork for the smooth installation of the containerized bathroom.<\/p><p>RDA\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Paul Bayly and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Culture Dr. Marcia Potter were among attendees present to witness the signing.<\/p><p>Speaking on behalf of No Limit Construction Mr. Smith said, \u201cI am proud to be part of the rebuilding process in the Virgin Islands and to work with the RDA as a father of an athlete, to help restore the A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground.\u201d<\/p><p>This is the second contract within a month to be executed by the RDA to support recovery works at the A.O. Shirley Recreation grounds. On May 10, a contract was signed with Mr. Arthur Corion of AC. Construction to build the perimeter wall.<\/p><p>It is the third recent contract to focus on youth initiatives. On May 24 the RDA signed a contract with Autland Heavy Equipment Co. Ltd. for debris clearance at the Elmore Stoutt High School.\u00a0 This is a Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture project which is being implemented with support of the RDA.<\/p><p>The completion of repairs to the A. O.
