Professional Life: As a communication intern, I help with capturing the moment and showcasing the dedicated efforts which the RDA has executed to recover and further develop the British Virgin Islands. This is made visible through social media, content creation and lending a helping hand or valuable insight for team projects.
Challenges and Triumphs: I graduated from Cedar International School in 2023 and not only did I receive my College Preparatory Certificate, but I also managed to secure an International Baccalaureate Diploma. This is one of my greatest achievements so far as it took a lot of sacrifice, dedication and discipline to achieve it.
After the Pandemic in 2019, I was forced to make my first big decision at 15. A decision that would either make me or break me. I had to choose if I wanted to stay in my original school where all my lifelong friends were, but endure the reality of the fact that the school was not progressing my knowledge while offering online only classes due to Covid-19, which in essence, was deterring me from my academic goals. Or, I had to choose if I wanted to go to a new school that would open me up to many new opportunities for my future, but face the fact that I would have to leave behind the people I loved.
As I chose to switch schools, I was faced with another dilemma – catching up with my classmates in the new school due to not being familiar with their curriculum. I struggled a lot in many of my classes and it made me question if I made the right decision, but instead of giving in to stress, I found effective ways to be where I want to be, such as asking for help, cutting out old habits like, procrastination and being on social media consistently and prioritizing. At some points, I became really overwhelmed, but I kept reminding myself of my main goal and after two years of continuous hard work, I achieved it.
