The Elmore Stoutt High School Redevelopment Project achieved substantial completion as of Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Substantial completion means that all major components of the works have been sucessfully completed and the building is deemed fully functional.
The defects liability period now commences during which all outstanding minor defects, aethetic and otherwise, will be addressed. Project handover was executed by each Contractor having handed over the keys for each building to the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency.
The RDA wishes to extend huge congratulations to the building contractors Quality Construction, Metro Construction, Autland Heavy Equiptment Ltd and the joint venture between Northam Construction and Sunleaf Construction in addition to the External Works Contractor, No Limit Construction for a job well done in eight months. The planning and procurement for the project was exectued within four months which brings the total project duration – planning, procurement and construction – to one year, with a budget of $15 million.
The scope of this project included the construction of four reinforced concrete buildings which are comprised of:
- Block A: A two-story Technical Block which will be home to auto-mechanics, food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, electronics, woodwork, the metal shop, a bakery lab, culinary lab and a bar and restaurant training lab.
- Block B: Two three-story Classroom Blocks with a total of 30 classrooms plus adjoining restroom facilities at each level, and a connecting staircase.
- BLOCK C: A one-story Administrative Block which hosts the reception area, the principal’s office, front office, counsellor’s office, the infirmary, staff lounge, staff restrooms, janitor closet and storage area.
Combined, the four buildings of this facility total 24,904 sq ft.
