Monday, 12 February – The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) will host a training session for contractors on Gender, Social Inclusion, and the Environment.
This training is meant to create a conscious awareness on the BVI’s environment, social and gender issues and how they relate to infrastructure.
Nancy Laatunen, the RDA’s Social and Gender Specialist will conduct the training set to take place on Tuesday, 13 February from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Maria’s by the Sea Conference Room.
Ms. Laatunen has worked in over 60 developing countries including regionally in Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She has completed Social Impact Assessment, Resettlement Plans and prepared Gender Action Plans for all major International Financial Institutions and private sector clients.
Some topics to be covered at the training session include ‘Gender and Infrastructure Projects’, ‘Health and Safety on Infrastructure Projects’, and ‘Environmental Issues and Construction’.
Chief Executive Officer of the RDA Mr. Anthony McMaster said, “Gender training makes a difference as it facilitates positive change and more efficient attitudes and actions. The more informed our stakeholders are, the greater the improvement in gender equality.”
Just last week, on 8th February, the RDA held an internal workshop for staff on Gender and Social Inclusion. Both workshops will have featured complementary presentations by Project Manager and CDB Contract Supervisor Sergio Dantas, Community Liaison Officer April Glasgow and Environmental Specialist Clive Petrovic.
The Gender and Social Inclusion Workshop is organised under the Caribbean Development Bank’s training to target contractors and stakeholder partners that are engaged in infrastructure work. Environmental and Community Issues will also be featured.
