Road Town, Tortola – February 06, 2025: The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) is set to embark on series of capital projects aimed at renovating and upgrading key areas of the Annex and Major Peebles Wing at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. This ambitious initiative underscores BVIHSA’s commitment to advancing and expanding healthcare services, while modernizing critical infrastructure for the benefit of the Territory’s residents.
To execute this transformative project, BVIHSA has contracted the services of the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA). This collaboration will be formally established during a Multi-Agreement Signing Ceremony scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Main Lobby of the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
The ceremony will feature the signing of three key agreements:
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU): Establishing the strategic partnership framework between the BVIHSA and the RDA.
- Statement of Requirement: Formally assigning the project portfolio to the RDA. The document details the necessary improvements identified by BVIHSA, including roof repairs, renovations to the Clinic Lobby, installation of oxygen generating systems, furnishing of the Outpatient Clinic Area, connection of generators, and upgrades to the Enterprise (Information Technology) and Human Resources areas, as well as renovations to the Dialysis, Laundry, Dental Services areas, and hospital signage.
- Deed of Contribution: Outlining the initial financial commitment for the project, made possible through funding grants from loan funding through the Ministry of Finance.
The project will be implemented in phases to ensure that renovations are carried out efficiently while minimizing disruption to hospital operations and maintaining the highest standards of care. By contracting the RDA to execute these improvements, BVIHSA is ensuring that the necessary expertise and resources are applied to achieve a modern, safe, and effective healthcare environment.
“This is a significant milestone for our healthcare system, said Mr. Ron Potter – Chairman of the BVIHSA Board of Directors. “We are confident that these improvements will greatly enhance our ability to provide high-quality care to the people of the British Virgin Islands.”
Acting CEO Dr. June Samuel, has shared her confidence in RDA’s selection for this project, stating, “We chose RDA because of their exceptional experience and proven track record in managing and delivering on such projects.”
