Director of Programme Delivery, Mrs. Shaina Smith-Archer, led a presentation on the proposed Fish Landing Site at the Omar Hodge Fishermen’s Wharf, outlining plans to provide a safe, organised place for fishers to land and sell local fish and seafood, supported by access to ice and essential facilities.
The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) shared the proposal at the Sixth District Community Meeting last evening, where the Agency was joined by Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Theodore James. The presentation was followed by a robust question-and-answer session, allowing community members to share feedback, raise concerns, and discuss priorities for the project.
The proposed project scope includes a modern docking facility to accommodate vessels up to 45 feet, with fish cleaning stations, on-site ice vending, visitor and operational spaces, and easy public access, including a convenient pick-up and drop-off area.
While the proposed landing site will not replace a Fishing Complex, it is intended to improve access to locally harvested fish for both fishers and the public and to deliver a much-needed service to the community.
The Agency is currently securing the services of a design consultant, and feedback received during the meeting will be used to help shape the design proposal as the project moves forward.
The RDA remains committed to continued engagement as the project progresses.
