BACKGROUND

The government-owned residence for the Attorney General, now renamed as Estate House #1 has been identified as a priority for repair in part because of the high cost of alternate accommodations as well as the opportunity cost of not having the building utilized. The structure was rendered uninhabitable, and in need of significant repair.

EVALUATING VALUE FOR MONEY

One of the core roles of the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) is ensuring Value for Money (VfM) in the delivery of programmes and projects aimed toward recovery and development of the Virgin Islands.

Activity

The repairs to the home will allow for visiting judges or the Attorney General to be accommodated in a safe, secure neighbourhood. The improvements are also expected to reduce the operating costs of the home and provide the requirements that are stipulated by the Eastern Supreme Court for Judge’s accommodations.

Result

The refurbished home will feature a full replacement of the roof and structural elements, windows, doors, new kitchen cabinetry, closets, new plumbing and electrical installations.

An expansion in scope called for the strengthening of the structure with new concrete reinforcement for columns and beams. The refurbishment was completed with a new A/C installation, security system and ceiling, wall and floor finishes.
