BACKGROUND
Road Town’s maintenance has been overseen by multiple entities, including the City Management Unit, the Department of Waste Management, and the Public Works Department. However, limited funding and inconsistent practices have hindered the city’s ability to maintain high standards, resulting in deterioration that affects businesses, residents, and visitors. The Road Town Development Plan (RTDP) aims to address these challenges by implementing a cohesive strategy that incorporates private partnerships.
The Road Town Development Partnership (RTDP) project will focus on urban renewal and sustainable development, seeking to transform Road Town into a modern, business-friendly, and inclusive environment for all.
Activity
Pedestrian Infrastructure: Rehabilitation of walkways, including the stretch from CIBC Bank to Vanterpool Enterprises, and a scenic boardwalk connecting Tortola Pier Park to QEII Park.
Accessibility Improvements: Disability-friendly features such as ramps, wider sidewalks, and accessible public spaces.
Waterfront Drive Beautification: Landscaping, street furniture, and green spaces to enhance the waterfront area for residents and tourists.
General Beautification: Modern signage, landscaping, public art, rest areas, and benches to improve the visual appeal of Road Town.
Climate Resilience: Green infrastructure, including rain gardens and sustainable landscaping, to prepare for climate challenges.
Result
Create a pedestrian-friendly environment with accessible pathways, modern infrastructure, and improved connectivity.
Boost business opportunities in a revitalized urban space that attracts investment and supports local entrepreneurs.
